Let’s pretend John Kerry was not in Cambodia at Christmas, but rather in January.
Let’s pretend John Kerry did everything he could—including wounding himself—to get out of Vietnam.
Let’s pretend there are gaps in John Kerry’s military record.
Let’s pretend everything the Swifties say is true—even the stuff that has already been shown to be false.
Now. Does that make Kerry less fit for the office of President than George W. Bush?
Kerry wasn’t in Cambodia in December? So what? Bush was never there.
Kerry injured himself to get out of Vietnam? At least he went in the first place. George thought about it (injuring himself) but couldn’t bring himself to do it, and ended up getting into TANG instead.
Gaps in Kerry’s military record? Ditto for Bush.
What else have they thrown at him? That he lied? That he disrespected veterans? Let’s say he did. So has Bush.
If everything the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth say is true, then—at worst—it puts Kerry on a par with Bush.
Except Kerry hasn’t tanked our economy, abused and neglected our soldiers, botched the “war on terrorism”, taken giant steps back with respect to the environment, alienated the rest of the world, or declared himself to be God’s messenger on Earth. So really, he’s still pretty far ahead.
