Whoops!
From today’s New York Times:
Iraq now appears to have destroyed its stockpiles of illicit weapons within months of the Persian Gulf war of 1991, and by the time of the American invasion in spring 2003, its capacity to produce such weapons was continuing to erode, the top American inspector in Iraq said in a report made public today.
When asked for her reaction, blogger Karol stated that both the report and its author were, in her view, “dumb”.
Gosh, that’s so nice of Saddam to just up and destroy those weapons. I really believe he did it too.

And, for the record, I called you dumb.

After a day of criticising Rick’s posts, I have to defend him here. You called him dumb for claiming that there was no evidence of anything other than “Hussein destroyed the weapons himself as a result of US/Int’l pressure” - which turns out to be the same conclusion of the U.S.’s top inspector.
I think Rick’s analysis here stands.

I just hope that the inspectors ‘conclusion’ doesn’t blow up in one of our cities in the near future.

Right, because our real concern is some unknown terrorist smuggling a bomb from Iraq’s so unbelievably secret nuclear weapons program—so secret we still cannot find any evidence of it—rather than a nuke of some sort coming from places like N. Korea, Iran or the former Soviet Republics.
$64,000 Question: What do those three have in common?
Answer: They have been neglected because of the foolhardy war in Iraq.
Really Karol, what dream world do you live in?

What, exactly, would it take to convince you that he had nothing? I appreciate your cynicism (what with Hussein being a megalomaniacal, sadistic bastard and all), but the U.N. inspectors, the U.S. inspectors and the U.S. military have been watching Iraq carefully for the last 13 years and have been ransacking the place for the last 3. They have found nothing.
At what point does your useful cynicism become dangerous paranoia? Or worse, at what point does the War in Iraq become a mere wedge issue that sacrifices our soldiers in the service of domestic conservative principles like tax cuts and increased puritanism in our laws?

Guess who else concedes that Iraq didn’t have weapons of mass destruction: http://tinyurl.com/6ymbk
Can we agree that he is dumb?
