Subliminal Plastic Revolver?
Has anyone else noticed that overrated 21st century neo-rock celebrity cruise Velvet Revolver have a tendency to sound a bit like underrated late-nineties experimental progressive pop collective self, especially on tracks such as Superhuman?

What You Should Be Listening To
Two songs are as timely today as they were when they first achieved popularity. I urge you to listen to them again (or for the first time), and think about what that means (and, of course, share your thoughts with us here at Rick’s.
One is Ball of Confusion, by the Temptations ("Great googalooga can’t you hear me talkin’ to ya?"). The other is Compared to What, by Eddie Harris & Les McCann ("We`re chicken feathers, all without one nut").
Both are terrific songs, especially the second one (if you can find it, get the live version from the Montreaux jazz festival). Written in the late ‘60’s/early ‘70’s, these songs are one voice of a generation torn apart by the civil rights movement and the Vietnam war. How much has changed, and how much hasn’t? Have we come full circle? Were the ‘80’s our ‘50’s? I don’t pretend to have the answers (yet), or to be able to glean them from two old R&B tunes, but it’s worth a listen, if not a thought.

A Modest Proposal
Since the Bush administration is so gung ho about space all of a sudden ("Hmm, let’s see, where haven’t we totally fucked up yet?"), here’s my suggestion: a massive generator, with a killer amp and some really sweet speakers should be set up on the moon. The complete works of Led Zeppelin should then be played in perpetuity, as a tribute to the greatest rock and roll band ever.

How I feel today (due in part to my iPod)
I want to be different, like everybody else I want to be like
I want to be just like all the different people
I have no further interest in being the same,
because I have seen difference all around,
and now I know that that’s what I want
I don’t want to blend in and be indistinguishable,
I want to be a part of the different crowd,
and assert my individuality along with the others
who are different like me
I don’t want to be identical to anyone or anything
I don’t even want to be identical to myself
I want to look in the mirror and wonder,
“who is that person? I’ve never seen that person before;
I’ve never seen anyone like that before.”
I want to call into question thevery idea that
identity can be attached
I want a floating, shifting, ever changing persona:
Invisibility and obscurity,
detachment from the ego and all of it’s pursuits.
Unity is useless
Comformity is competitive and divisive and leads only to
stagnation and death.
If what I’m saying doesn’t make any sense,
that’s because sense can not be made
It’s something that must be sensed
And I, for one, am incensed by all this complacency
Why oppose war only when there’s a war?
Why defend the clinics only when they’re attacked?
Why are we always reactive?
Let’s activate something
Let’s fuck shit up
Whatever happened to revolution for the hell of it?
Whatever happened to protesting nothing in particular, just
protesting cause it’s Saturday and there’s nothing else to do?
Lyrics to “It’s Saturday”, by King Missile.

He's Got An Answer (for everything)
So if you want to know about landlocked countries in Asia under the strongarm hold of Buddhists . . .
. . . it’s Nepal.
It’s Nepal.
It’s Nepal.
Nepal.
It’s Nepal.
It’s Nepal.
It’s Nepal.
Ne . . . pal, Ne-pa-al.
