 My hometown

I’m a Brooklyn boy now (even if she thinks it is fake Brooklyn), so I’ve added the best Prospect Heights information blog - Daily Heights - to the blogroll.

 Dog Bites Man

In what will come as a huge shock, a Presidential commission on pre-war intelligence has found that it wasn’t the President’s fault. And he didn’t even try to influence the intelligence. Why would he? It isn’t like he wanted to go nation-building or anything.

In other news, all of the people who provided the President with the faulty evidence were sentenced to a lifetime of promotions and medal ceremonies.

 Best. Tie-in. Ever.

I don’t want to step on Ferrari’s Star Wars-nerd toes here, but M&M’s is introducing Darth Vader M&M’s with dark chocolate (of course). The “Jedi” M&M’s have the traditional milk chocolate.

Hat tip to Francis.

Is it time to bring back the ERA?

I recently noticed that conservative sites have been calling the departed ‘martyr’ “Terri Schindler-Schiavo."

There isn’t much that is funny about the Terri Schiavo story (which isn’t to say that I haven’t been trying to write jokes). Still, who would have thought that it would have resulted in an outbreak of feminism?

 The Missing Debate: Euthanasia

In this whole Terry Schiavo mess, how come no one is talking about what should have happened once the determination was made to remove the feeding tube; i.e., give her an injection so that, just in case there is anything left, it doesn’t suffer while it is starved to death.

She should either be kept alive or put down.

 And many happy returns

Please pop over and say Happy Birthday to friend-of-Rick’s Daniel Radosh. He turned thirty-x today. This is my little-drummer-boy version of a gift, so try to do something for his sitemeter.

 Clock issues

For some reason the “Gigs” page refuses to accept that it is in the New York time zone. Tonight’s show is at 9 and the shows at Ripple and Patio are at 8:30.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

 Someone's knocking at my door

I assume all of the other poker bloggers have received an email from “pokerfriend007@yahoo.de” about joining his yahoo group. Does anybody know this guy?

 Welcome back!

I stopped checking in on The Minor Fall, The Major Lift back in October after finally coming to terms with his retirement from blogging. I just found out that he returned in January, so he goes back on the blogroll immediately.

This was one of the funniest (if self-referential) blogs around and I’m glad it’s back. I’ll be busy reading three months of archives. Don’t call me for a day or two.

Ugarte's Poker Grovel #59, or Too Little Too Late

The running theme of my life is mistakes with small consequences. There was a stretch of my life where the accretion of those mistakes made me a very unhappy person, but I appear to be beyond that now. I am back to making small-scale mistakes with small-scale consequences. Last Wednesday night was another one that I wish could have been replayed. And the poker didn’t even go badly.

 The Story of Prince Richard

Once upon a time there was a handsome prince, named Richard, who lived in magical Blaine Castle in a valley made entirely of silicon.  Of course, Blaine Castle was surrounded by beautiful gardens, with manicured lawn and fruit-bearing trees, and Prince Richard loved to stroll through the gardens with his beloved Princess GuruGirl.  Then, one day, a visitor came to the castle.

 Back to the grind

My blogging has been intermitent anyway, but it may become even a little less frequent. First of all, I’ve started blogging more at Stay Free! Daily. Second, I am back at work (and on a break, so no comments about blogging from work on my first day of work).

Anyway, Stay Free! has been linked by Boing Boing three times and just got hooked up as a “New and Notable” site on the front page of Yahoo’s search directory.

In any event, over the next few days I am going to post a week in review in my comedy stuff (which has been a long time coming) plus last Wednesday’s tournament at A.M.

Sorry for the sporadic posting and for being so boring when I choose to stop by.

 Subliminal Plastic Revolver?

Has anyone else noticed that overrated 21st century neo-rock celebrity cruise Velvet Revolver have a tendency to sound a bit like underrated late-nineties experimental progressive pop collective self, especially on tracks such as Superhuman?
