Apparently, maggots are now being used to treat infected wounds. Kind of gross, but I guess it makes sense.
Who knew?!? Maggots are good for you

NAFTA, Trade Agreements, Kerry and Edwards. Some thoughts. In his attempt to come from way back and upset John Kerry for the Democratic nomination, John Edwards is focusing on two disctinctions. First he claims he has a better chance to beat Bush than Kerry does. Second, Edwards draws disctinctions on their approach to trade.
Edwards beats the anti-NAFTA, anti-free trade, anti-jobs going overseas drum. That drum does not resonate with me. While I am not in favor of any policies that would give companies an artificial incentive to move jobs overseas, I am in favor of free trade and also view the shift of manufacturing jobs overseas as an inevitiability.

Grovel News or Ha! More Poker!I am going away for a few weeks, so there is very little likelihood of a new Grovel during that time. But there are some things to keep an eye on:
At least it's not about poker
Whoa Nellie! Perhaps we have a race for the Democratic nomination after all.I may have been too quick in assuming that Kerry had the race sewn up. John Edwards’ unexpectedly strong second place finish in Wisconsin has made this a race again. Kerry is still the big favorite, but, in more than any other primary I know of, the key issue seems to be finding someone to beat Bush. At the end of the day, while I don’t really like Edwards’ trade policy (anti-free trade), he might match up with Bush better than Kerry because he is younger, more attractive, more passionate and more engaging than Kerry and, perhaps most importantly, a southerner. It is hard to see where any voter that would vote for Kerry over Bush would not also vote for Edwards, but it is easy to see that there might be voters, especially southerners distrustful of New England liberals, who would vote for Edwards but not Kerry.

Ugarte's Poker Grovel #13 or The Perils of Waiting to BlogHad I done the right thing and blogged right after my PokerStars session last night, it would have been a happy blog indeed. Instead, I didn’t and I have today’s game to report about instead.
Also, some stuff about other poker blogs.
A Texas-Sized SwindleCount me as the umpteenth person to comment on the Yankees’ trade for Alex Rodriguez.
Just as I felt about the Rangers’ failed trade for Manny Ramirez, the Rangers are being outsmarted again. I would certainly understand if the fine citizens of Texas got together to hang Tom Hicks by his nuts from the spire on the Adolphus.
Ugarte's Poker Grovel #12 or Drowning in the River or, more accurately, Bitch Bitch BitchWhile Rick is wielding The Hammer like Thor, it seems that every table I play at is the Nutcracker Suite. It is considered bad form to whine about bad beats, but its my damn blog and I’m in a bad, bad mood.
THE HAMMER!!!Blame Grubby, but my play has gotten even worse: I’m now raising with the worst possible Hold ‘em starting hand: 27o, or The Hammer. Here’s the punch line: It worked!
UPDATE: It worked three times!!!
Ugarte's Poker Grovel #11 or Yes, Damnit, Yes!It was shaping up like a bad, bad night but it turned out just fine. I didn’t net much for the night, but I won my first SNG and I turned a decent profit (for the time invested) in a .10/.25 NL ring game. Come along as I recount the first tears of joy in a while.
Blog King SurvivorsAs you can see from the neat little java applet on the left-hand side, the Blog King (Christ Web) retains his crown going into Round 2, and the two surviving pretenders are Walloworld and Where the Hell Was I. Round 2 rulings will be forthcoming shortly.
Ugarte's Poker Grovel #10 or Burning Down My Master's HouseDATELINE: New York Coach had a banner day, Ferarri rocked the house when Coach wasn’t around, Pauly redeemed himself and Rick and Sam went a long way to dishonoring the family name. (In other news, Ms. Rick saved the day.) In the fine tradition of the New York Times, I am going to blog some poker that I didn’t even attend. As Pauly noted, I didn’t make it to Ferarri’s game on Monday. I did, however, conduct a series of interviews, so I can play reporter and give a little love to a game I missed so I could, seriously, pick up my laundry before the Laundry King closed.
Also, some on-line play to report (currently ongoing as I write) and a welcome to a couple of poker blogs to the roll.

"Where I am when I'm not here"
"That's a hell of an act. What do you call yourselves?"
Everyone comes to Rick's. This is where Rick goes.
"I am shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!"
