Thanks

Thanks to everyone who made it out last night. Zinester, Brother of Ugarte and I had a hell of a time. ~175 people (including Signor Ferrari) made it out last night and Jumpin’ Jive was a smashing success.

Particular thanks to Southpaw, who gave even more of the door to Stay Free! than was agreed to, Dave the Spazz for providing his DJ services for nothing but carfare and “Brother" Russell Scholl for compiling a spectacular film. (I highly recommend any future Russell Scholl screenings, so if you want to be on his mailing list, let me know (via comments or otherwise) and I’ll pass your info on to him.)

I’ll go back to posting about other stuff now.

thanks for posting this.  i’d like to get on russell’s mailing list.  unfortunately, i had to leave right after the screening at southpaw so i was unable to sign up at the venue.  it was a great night, and i’d like to be able to share the experience with friends in the future.  thanks again!

The evening was fanstastic and would love to bring more folks to see it!  I signed up for the mailing list and spoke to Russell briefly afterward, but haven’t received anything.  He mentioned that there would be another screening at barbes this week, but I haven’t been able to get any info.  is this still going on or have plans changed?

Beth: I’ve sent your info to Russell.

nic: I asked Russell about the screening. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know.

Thanks for the nice comments regarding the Southpaw screening, and thanks for supporting the great Stay Free!

There was some misunderstanding - I’m not showing at Barbes this week (I did so a week before the Southpaw show, and will continue to show films/vids - different themes each time - at Barbes every 6-8 weeks).  Though I may go down there tonight (1/31) to check out Las Rubias del Norte.  Barbes has great acts, in general.

I have several tentative upcoming screenings, but at this writing only two are in stone:

Thursday, 3/31 (8pm?) at Freddy’s Back Room in Prospect Heights, Bklyn. <freddysbackroom.com> The theme will be music—this program will not focus on vintage jazz, etc., but rather rock & roll & pop music, from the 50s - today.  That means from Elvis Presley to Public Enemy to Kid Koala.  Expect great performances/vidoes, as well as a generous dollop of CheezeWhiz to boot (vintage Queen, Carpenters, a Bowie/Cher duet from the mid-late 70s that you won’t believe).  If you attend this

Saturday, 4/23 (8-10pm) at Barbes, Park Slope, Bklyn <www.barbesbrooklyn.com> I haven’t decided what I’ll show yet.

Other screenings / tentative dates, etc:

A History of Animation (early 1900s - today) at a gallery in W-burg (Spring some time), and a program of African-Americans in the early years of cinema (1900 - 1950), most likely on Sat afternoon, 2/26 at The Dana Center, for Black History Month <http://www.centralparknyc.org/virtualpark/northend/danacenter> I may also run this program at Barbes, perhaps a slightly expanded version, some time down the line.

If you want to be put on the e-mail list, drop me a line:  raschol-at-med.cornell.edu

(Beth - I added you)

thanks
- Russell
