Rounders (**)
I watched Rounders with some of the poker crew last night. In the typical movie review context, I don’t have much to say. It is a decent to good formula movie set in the world of poker. The acting is ok for the most part (Malkovich is a little annoying), the poker scenes are ok and the poker speak was solid. Certainly a fun watch with poker players and a couple glasses of wine.
But there certainly are some things to talk about, they just require having seen the movie. So consider yourself forewarned if you haven’t.
Solid review, and I mostly agree. You have to remember that Mike has a long history of playing in those circles and that past played a factor. But you have to admit that for Hollywood, they did a good job. By the way, if Mike was gay, don’t you think he would have given some to his friend who just got out of the joint?

First of all, kudos for not saying “not that there is anything wrong with that.” It’s important that you lay your prejudices on the line.
Contrary evidence to the theory? The ice queen declines sex with him because it would be too good and too long. Famke doesn’t want a piece ... she wants ANOTHER piece. Also, even when Grandma was in his pj’s there was no telltale bulge from McD.
Verdict: No gayer than Tom Cruise.

Solid review as usual. Ugarte definitely has the gay/not gay thing pegged.
The movie is more of a 3 for me, the story is pretty good despite holes that Signor pointed out. Plus they did get the poker right (as opposed to CSI who fucked it up badly). It’s good enough that non-poker players can watch it and enjoy it, which is another “good thing”.
Great review!!

I forgot to mention, what about the scene after they get the shit kicked out of them by the “municipal” workers? They got the shit kicked out of them, but five minutes later (other than the ketchup on their face) they are as good as new.

Excellent review.
My conclusion was that Famke was old news… back when Mike was cool he already wore out that action.
But that rejection was a bit unrealistic in my opinion.
