A Victory . . . But For Whom?
Certainly for Bush. We now have 4 more years of this guy, except now the gloves are off. He’s no longer beholden to the people for re-election, but with a return to the private sector looming large on the horizon, he is as much as ever a slave to the special interests who put him where he is today.
Here are my predictions for the next 4 years, and I hope to God I am wrong about every one:

Naah. Too optimistic. We won’t get involved in a third war—we’ll let them develop their nuclear arms in peace until they present such a threat that we are bullied by them.
And no way Bush gets two justices. He gets between 3 and 4. Easy.

Bush received 16.7% of the vote in Manhattan.
Bin Laden, you hear that?* Bomb somewhere else next time.
*Rumors abound that Bin Laden is a loyal reader of Rick’s.

You’ll lose Britain singlehandedly if you don’t quit calling them ‘England’. You sound like one of those stupid Americans Ugarte doesn’t like.

actually, UK would be best, I think. Also, every English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish person I know *hates* to be called Brittish and hates even more to be called a Brit.

Every single English, Scottish, Welsh person I know calls themselves British (and considers the other titles to be too nationalistic). Irish, obviously not because they’re not British. Neither is Northern Ireland. But no one, outside of England, obviously, likes to be called English or have Britain or the UK referred to as ‘England’. It’s one example I always hear of American ignorance.

When I was in Scotland, drinking in a bar in Wick, a local told me that he hates the English because “Everything shite from Scotland is Scottish, but everything good is British.”
