Ferrari Speaks: A short list of reasons why the Iraq war was not a good idea

This is an expansion of a debate in two of Rick’s recent posts.  See #1 and #2.  But I’ve decide to expand my latest comment into a post.

I think we can all agree now that the stated reasons for the war in Iraq (WMD, etc.) were not real.  The real reasons Bush went to war are:

We all have our part to play in serving our country, perhaps?

So, Karol, do you think you can come up with a justification for the President surreptitiously wiping his glasses off on the sweater of a constituent??

I don’t know what Ferrari would think, but I rate this movie .

Thanks to Heaneyland for the link

Ugarte's Poker Grovel #26, or Locked Tight

This Monday saw a return, after a one week hiatus, of the weekly game at the Blue Parrot. But Ferrari announced a twist for this week’s game. was a twist.  Instead of our typical low limit ring game, Ferrari held a $100 buy-in, no rebuys no limit hold ‘em tournament.  Because we have delusions of grandeur, (almost) all of the regulars joined in.

I should have taken notes, of course. But I guess I remember enough. Get yourself a drink, because this gets long.

 Some Hands I've Folded

Ever fold a hand just to find out you would have had the nuts if you’d stayed in? Of course you have.  But has it happened to you five times in a row?  How about in the first five hands of a sit-n-go?  It happened to me:

 Some Gave All

Pat Tillman had it all. He was a professional football player - and a damn good one.  He left a $3.6 million dollar contract with the Arizona Cardinals on the table when, in the wake of 9/11, he gave up his football career in order to enlist in the military.  Not surprisingly, this elite athlete was in the U.S. Special Forces.  He chose to put himself in the line of fire in pursuit of a cause he believed in over the life of luxury that he had earned by his talents.

Pat Tillman was killed today in Afghanistan serving his country.  I have grave doubts about the way the administration is conducting this war, but I have no mixed feelings about Pat Tillman.

Tillman’s brother, Kevin, a Cleveland Indians prospect, also gave up his career to enlist and serve.  I congratulate the Tillman family for raising two fine men and join them in mourning Pat’s death.

 Reverse Engineering the Final Table

The Day 4 results were posted last night. Sort of.  Poker Pages listed the people who busted out, but didn’t list the final table or the chip counts.  I can’t give you the chip counts, but with the help of the Day 3 Results, I can give you the final table for broadcast with their starting positions at the end of Day 3:

Why do smart Republicans debase themselves by supporting Bush?

I was originally going to post this as a comment over at Clarified, but she has ridiculously short limits on posts.  Dawn posted this about a woman who was fired (along with her husband) for taking pictures of military caskets.  Karol, while taking “the left” to task for its “hysteria”, wrote the following defense: “It’s been government policy not to allow photos of military coffins in transit since 1991. And her PRIVATE company fired her because she broke the rules.” My too-long response is below.

Why you shouldn't call with AXo

Some jackass might raise you with the Hammer, then river you after you pair up.  Of course in this case, that jackass was me.

 Fun with Page 23

So, Ugarte says:

Pick up the nearest book.
Open it to page 23.
Find the fifth sentence.
Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

Here goes . . .

 Welcome Back!

Day 2 results from the WPT event at the Bellagio have been posted, and sitting at 8th in the chip count? Gabe Kaplan - who used to be the Vince Van Patten in the broadcast booth (i.e., c-list celebrity who plays poker).

But Gabe is no pushover at the table. He has very recently won tournaments and made the final table at WSOP events in the past.

Good luck, Kotter!

Ugarte's Poker Grovel #25, or Not Much to Say

I got my ass kicked yesterday.  Not a lot of money, but in embarrassingly little time.

Ugarte Goes Soft: Brooklyn Museum Renovation Reconsidered

I was quick to criticize the renovations at the Brooklyn Museum based on the view from my daily walk-by to the subway.  After yesterday’s opening I’ve been able to see the work up close and have to make a major mea culpa - I spoke too soon.  The renovation is fantastic.
