I will start by saying that Ugarte is a much better player—and a much better groveler—than I. However, I just sat down to play a single-table NL Hold ‘em tournament and I just got up from playing a single-table NL Hold ‘em tournament, $2000 poorer. Let me explain . . .
Rick's Poker Grovel: The Bad Beat of My Life
Blog King - Group HugIt was a bit touchy-and-go for a while there, but I’ve aged and mellowed since, and had a good hug with Dan K. O’Leary, so without further ado, let’s rate this week’s Challenges. The question was: “Why do you deserve the King (or Queen) of the Blogs title, and why don’t your adversaries?”
Battle of Algiers HELD OVERMy review stated that you had until today to see The Battle of Algiers at the Film Forum. But, you are in luck. The Film Forum has held it over (not clear for how long). You have at least one more week and perhaps more. Go see it if you have not already.

Blog King - Your Random Posts SuckSince one of our contestants last week apparently was offended by the “tactlessness” of certain judges (yours truly undoubtedly among them—perhaps all of them), I offer this disclaimer: IT IS ONLY A GAME. DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONALLY. That having been said, I will now proceed to take off the gloves. This week, I must judge one random post from each blog. I have chosen the third from the top at the time that I visit each site. Here are my disgruntled musings:
And, once we convert them, the Iraqis will be cured of their melancholy humorsThe Associated Press reports that “the U.S.-led war was justified because it eliminated the threat that Saddam Hussein might again resort to ‘evil chemistry and evil biology’”. While in the wake of David Kay’s conclusions all of the senior administration officials are further backtracking from the original justification for going to war, only Aschroft has backtracked all the way to the Middle Ages. Oh, wait, he was already there.
Ugarte's Poker Grovel #8 or Don't Call it a ComebackContrary to popular accounts, Helmut is not dead. He joined me at Ferrari’s semi-regular game along with repeat players Coach, Simon, Swish and the late-arriving Christian.
Game story, shout-out and a pokerstars update: Read it now!
OK, this one may be betterI thought that TMFTML had nailed the post title sweepstakes last week, but he has outdone himself.
You know what, just bookmark his page. Consistently great.
New Hampshire PredictionsOk, so I hit Iowa on the head, so I guess I’ll try to look into the crystal ball again. I predict that Kerry will win in the low 30’s with Dean 2nd in the low to mid 20’s. The important part of this election may actually be the next three. Fifth place might end Clark or Lieberman’s campaign, while a third place for Liebs might actually get him back into the race. However, I am going to predict a 3rd for Edwards a 4th for Lieberman and a disappointing fifth for Clark. But all three will be close ranging from no lower than 9% to no higher than 16%, but I think all three might be between 11-15%. Kucinich will double up Sharpton (2% to 1%) for bragging rights for the pretend candidates.

I told you I'd screw it up.Here are my Challenge scores for the Blog King Tournament
A better downtownThe Gothamist has a pair of good posts about the new Santiago Calatrava WTC transit hub. I too am impressed with the planned design.
Apparently, I'm Still A Judge!I’m hitting the ground stumbling here, so I may screw this up, but here are my rulings on what I think are this week’s blogs:
Here's Why We Don't Ask For DirectionsCan someone tell me how to get to the bottom of this mountain?
I Bow Before YouThe Minor Fall, The Major Lift has what is probably the best post title ever.
